The Spirit asks us to seek moments of quiet reflection and in those moments invites us into community with the Divine. People the world over understand those quiet moments as Prayer. For many, music serves as the impetus for prayer. Our Muslim brothers and sisters are invited to “come to pray” through a sung call, unmistakable for those who have heard it. Similarly, followers of the Torah enter into a time of community with sung prayer led by a huzzan or cantor. Following a season of lifting up the art and legacy of the Reformation, we now turn our eye to the sounds and teachings of the wider world as we explore what calls us all to pray. Together with Palestinian singer and multi-instrumentalist Zafer Tawil, the National Lutheran Choir presents “Call to Prayer,” an evening of music from the traditions of the three Abrahamic religions: Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Experience what has inspired, invited, and beckoned God’s people into conversation with the Divine.
